 An
International Cotton Conference was held in
Tashkent, the heart of Central Asia, on May
24-25, 2005. The conference was organized by the
Government of Uzbekistan and the International
Cotton Advisory Committee with the support and
assistance of Cotton Outlook and International
Textile Manufacturers Federations. The
conference capitalized on the experiences and
successes of two previously held conferences in
May 2000 and November 2002. About 250 foreign
delegates representing 154 companies and
organizations, and 53 Uzbek delegates
representing 26 companies and agencies attended
the conference. The two day conference was a
resounding success. The conference provided an
important forum for discussion on the current
challenges faced by the Uzbek and international
cotton industries. The focus of the conference
was the prospects for economic development in
the Central Asia and Uzbekistan in particular.

The major topics of the conference were the
current status and outlook of world cotton
market; cotton industry developments in
Uzbekistan and Central Asia; new technologies to
produce competitive cotton fiber; investments as
an instrument of modernization and growth of
cotton and textile industries; outlook for world
textile trade and the impact of the quota free
textile world and investment climate and
participation of international investors in the
development of Uzbek textile industry.
An
International Exhibition for Cotton and
Silk
Industries in Central Asia was also held
together with the International Cotton
Conference. The, first of its kind, event in
Uzbekistan for cotton and silk industries was
targeted to growers and manufacturers as well as
corporate and government agencies, investors and
international merchants. The exhibition provided
an excellent opportunity for participants to
learn more about the most innovative scientific
and technological solutions in the field of
cotton and silk processing and growing, the
newest technologies and products from the
industry leaders. ¨
